Internationale architecture biennale Rotterdam
During the IABR 2024 (International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam), Practice Place will open its doors to an exciting series of meetings and workshops focusing on the transformation of design practice. Here, the architectural community comes together to explore how, through collaboration, imagination and action, we can formulate a sustainable and hopeful response to the ecological, social and democratic challenges of our time.
On Friday 13 September, ‘Practice Place’, a day all about connection and learning, various speakers share their knowledge and perspectives. Gert, partner of Civic, will give an inspiring presentation on the Schoenenkwartier in Waalwijk-also part of the exhibition, a project that stands out for its innovative approach to heritage, sustainability and community. Housed in a 1930s national monument, the Schoenenkwartier has been transformed into a lively knowledge centre for shoe design and fashion.
Gert will discuss how Civic as an architecture firm is contributing to the development of new, sustainable design practices with the Shoe Quarter. With a design that embraces circular techniques and local crafts, the museum serves as an example of how architecture can contribute to more connected and meaningful communities.
This presentation fits perfectly with the theme of Practice Place: how can designers and local initiatives form a robust joint response to the ecosocial crises of our time? Gert's talk shows how Civic's projects are breaking new ground for social cohesion and urban transformation.
